Is there something in your life that you wish you would have pursued, but haven’t taken the time? Have you felt held back or been too scared? Is there a voice inside of you that wants to be free, but fear and doubt are holding you back? I’ve been there too.

Breaking out of fear and facing the doubt I had, allowed me to create amazing memories and feelings of accomplishment that I would never have experienced if I had not made the decision to go for it.

To give you an idea of my history, I started playing soccer when I was 7 years old. I excelled fairly quickly, competing at the highest levels. This path did not come without obstacles. I went through reconstructive surgery on my knee and very intrusive procedures to repair my ACL and meniscus. These trials through adolescence came close to holding me back from soccer and my goals, but I persevered and stuck with it. Through concussions, sprained ankles, bone bruises, tendinitis and broken bones – I was determined to hit my goal and receive a soccer scholarship and play in college. The dedication and hard work payed off and even WITH a broken leg at the time, I received an offer to play but the recovery from my leg felt like the last straw for my body. It seemed as though it was time for soccer to become a game of the past and I felt overwhelming doubt in my ability to ever play again.

Fast forward 5 years and I was at the point where I had enough. Since I quit playing, I felt a void knowing that I had a talent I could do nothing with. I needed to be free of the constraints my mind had put on my body and face my fear. I began to relate to a “you only live once” mentality, and let’s face it…I’m not getting any younger. At 25 I made the decision to pick it back up as a hobby and work through the pain and give my body a chance to recover. After 5 years of testing my limits, opportunities began to present themselves.

Now at 32, I have made it to my dream of playing at the professional level in beach soccer. Yes, BEACH SOCCER. We play bare foot, directly on the sand, and I love it.

I landed my position at So Cal Boot Camp just in time to take advantage of the unique programming we offer and train even harder for my big soccer tournament in Tobago.

Womens Championship Tobago Beach Soccer

There, I got the pleasure of playing with 1 Holland National Player (Annelies Martijn), 3 English National Players (Gemma-Louise Hillier, Jade Widdowson and Katie James), all organized by my wonderful coach, Felipe Romanelli. We ended up Champions of the 8th Annual Tobago Beach Soccer Championships. The journey is just beginning.

Although I gave up my passion when I was younger and had the world at my fingertips, I have been given a second chance to fulfil my ultimate dream and use the talents that God chose to give me. I am thankful everyday for second chances.

Life can have a way of presenting obstacles of all sorts and keep us back from our dreams, but keep in mind, you only live once and you were given certain talents for a reason.Utilize those talents at all healthy costs. The mind is a very powerful thing. It can be the key to your success, or the road to your biggest downfall. Actively allow the power of positivity to guide you in the direction towards your dreams.
